LEISTON U23’s host Holland on Saturday afternoon, 3pm, at the Watson & Hillhouse Stadium, in Thurlow Nunn North league action as the Blues reach the halfway point of their league campaign.
Two defeats have been suffered on the road at Whittlesey Athletic (3-2) and Harwich & Parkeston (6-0) in recent weeks, after a 1-0 home win against top of the table Haverhill Rovers. However, the U23’s remain in 11th place.
Holland, meanwhile, are in 14th place and three points behind Leiston at present in the division. Holland won 3-2 at home against Wivenhoe Town last Saturday after being two goals down at the break. The Essex side beat the U23’s twice last season in the league (4-1 at Holland and 3-0 in Suffolk).
After Saturday's match, the U23’s play just five more games in 2024. They see out the month with a home game against Stanway Pegasus next Saturday before heading to Wivenhoe Town on the final Saturday in November.
Blues U23’s manager Neil Smye said on Friday: -
“Previous games against Holland have always been tough games. We’re expecting another tough game. We’re looking for a reaction after last week’s performance. We didn’t compete last week at Harwich and weren’t brave enough in possession and our decision making out of possession on when to press or connect was below standard. Individually and collectively last week’s performance was way below the standard they have shown in previous games. We were second best in both boxes and slow on transition. This is something we need to be better at, and hopefully will put in a better performance individually and collectively.”
Neil Smye’s side host FC Peterborough and Pinchbeck United in December while they head to Gorleston Reserves in the middle of the month.
