LEISTON host Stamford at the weekend for their first home league fixture for nearly eight weeks. In fact, it will be the Blues first home league game at Victory Road on a Saturday for even more... 11 weeks.
The Blues played their fourth game in a row away from home on Tuesday night when they visited Bury Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup, and progressed into Round 2 after a late Ben Fowkes goal. Leiston are 14th in the league after recent results and will now look forward to three home games on the bounce.
After the weekend’s game with Stamford, Bromsgrove Sporting head to Suffolk next Saturday while on Tuesday 12th November, Alvechurch visit.

Stamford are currently second in the league standings, taking 25 points from their 13 league games so far. They are one point behind leaders Kettering Town but have played a game more. However, the Lincolnshire club lost in their first games of both this season’s FA Cup and FA Trophy.
In the FA Cup, they lost 1-0 at Carlton Town while they lost 5-1 at home in the FA Trophy to Anstey Nomads. They have won their last two league meetings, beating St Ives Town 2-1 and Bromsgrove Sporting 3-2, both at home.
Leiston and Stamford met for the first time ever last November in Suffolk, with the Blues over turning a two goal deficit to win 3-2. Two early goals from the Lincolnshire team saw Stamford in control but George Quantrell net just before the interval. Ross Crane then levelled in the second period before Chris Casement’s stoppage time free-kick saw Leiston claim the points. However, Stamford won the return fixture in March this year when they won 3–0.
Fraser Alexander, who signed for the Blues in the summer, is looking forward to the game: “It’s important for us to be getting points and looking up, rather than looking over our shoulder," he said.
"You can find yourself slipping down the table quickly if you don’t have the right attitude and mentality towards games. That’s something we want to avoid. We want to keep the run and momentum going. And we’ve missed a home crowd to be honest, we’ve been outnumbered away from home the last four games.”
Stamford had a good first season in the Southern Central Premier last year, finishing 7th.
They reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time in the 2016-2017 season, as they beat Wrexham 3-2 in a 4th round qualifying replay. They lost 3-0 to Hartlepool United in Round One. Sam Donkin, who made 175 appearances for Leiston over five seasons, played in that FA Cup run.
Saturday will see Blues player George Quantrell reach 150 appearances, should he play against Stamford.
