AFTER six games in the FA Cup, and playing their last four matches all in cup competitions, Leiston finally get back to league action on Tuesday evening when they head to Hitchin Town. It starts a run of four games on the road.

The first three are league games starting at Hitchin, before Chris Wigger’s side head to Redditch United on Saturday before visiting Spalding United next Tuesday (22nd October). On Saturday 26th October, Leiston are without a game while on Tuesday 29th October, the Blues head to Bury Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup 1st Round.

Leiston had an impressive 4-1 win in December 2023 (last season) at Top Fields when they travelled to Hitchin. Jamar Loza (2), Jack Manly and Adam Bailey-Dennis were all on target as the Blues won on a cold night. The season before, the Blues won 3-0 thanks to goals from Ben Fowkes, Will Davies and Finlay Barnes.

In fact, Leiston’s only defeat against Tuesday's opponents came in October 2021 in the league at Hitchin as the Hertfordshire side won 4-1 on a Monday night. Nine days beforehand, the Blues won 3-1 at Top Field in the FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying. Ben Hunter, Brendan Ocran and Siju Odelusi were all on target.

The first-ever game in Hertfordshire saw the sides draw 2-2 in November 2018, with Joe Jefford and Tom Bullard on target. A year later, the game was abandoned due to bad weather before the game couldn’t be re-arranged due to COVID. In October 2020, Leiston conceded two late goals as the teams again drew 2-2. Will Davies and Liam Jackson were on target.

Hitchin, after a slow start, have taken 7 points from their last three league games. They won 4-0 at Bedford Town, before drawing 2-2 at Royston Town and beating Spalding United 2-1 at the weekend at home.

In team news, the Blues will have Wyatt Hill back available after serving a three game suspension.
