LEISTON host Royston Town on Bank Holiday afternoon as they go in search of their first victory of the campaign.
A 1-0 loss at Banbury United saw Leiston have plenty of the ball but the hosts managed to hold on to their lead and get the three points.
Blues boss Chris Wigger said after the defeat against Banbury: “It’s getting frustrating that I keep saying the same things. We control possession, having lots of the ball but not converting that into goals. I feel in getting like a scratch record. We had a good chat in the changing room after the game and a couple of the lads have pipped up and know it needs to be better. We have to do better in both boxes.
“In our performances at home I have no issues with. We need to get more goals though and maybe I need to change things for Monday with the quick change around."
Leiston have played Royston Town on 11 occasions before, with the Blues going the first nine games unbeaten. Last season, Leiston lost 3-2 at home to ‘The Crows’, with Adam Bailey-Dennis and Zach Dronfield on target. On Easter Bank Holiday Monday in the return fixture, George Quantrell and Jamar Loza were on the scoresheet but Leiston lost 4-2, having led 2-1 at one stage in the second half.
Leiston had first played Royston Town in November 2010, when both sides competed in their respective Step 5 leagues. In the Last 128, the Blues travelled to Garden Walk to play Royston. The game finished 2-2, with Michael Brothers and David Head netting for Leiston. Gareth Heath was sent off but it was Heath who was the hero three days later back at Leiston, as the midfielder scored after just two minutes to give Leiston a 1-0 win. The Blues went on to defeat Hythe Town (3-1, H), Guildford City (6-2 A (AET)) and Long Buckby (2-1 H) before losing 1-0 at Coalville Town in the quarter-finals.
Royston Town are in 15th place, with five points from their four games so far. Leiston are 20th, third from bottom.
Waltham Abbey will be the visitors on Saturday in the Emirates FA Cup as Leiston play their final game in August.
