Leiston secured an emphatic 7-1 win at the Victoria Ground at the weekend against Bromsgrove Sporting. This is just the third time they have won by six goals since becoming a Step 3 club in 2012.
Chris Wigger and Darren Eadie named an unchanged side from Monday night’s 3-0 win at Hitchin Town, with Kai Fletcher stepping down to play for the Reserves in the Suffolk Senior Cup.
Bromsgrove actually started the match quite well, winning a couple of early corners but it was the Blues who took the lead thanks to Finlay Barnes who curled home on the edge of the box at an angle and he netted a second on eight minutes to make it two. Adam Bailey-Dennis turned in George Quantrell’s corner from close range on 11 minutes to effectively end the game as a contest. Jake Hutchings headed home a corner for number four after 25 minutes, and within a minute it was five, with Ben Fowkes scoring his third goal for the club. Fowkes netted his fourth goal for Leiston just before the interval while Will Davies made it seven halfway into the second period, slotting under keeper Liam Armstrong after being put in by Finlay Barnes. Mikey Taylor did add a consolation goal on 87 minutes for the hosts as Leiston moved up to third with the win.
