LEISTON eased into the Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup last four with a comfortable 5-0 victory over an Ipswich Town XI at the Watson & Hillhouse Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Blues from Victory Road withstood early Ipswich attacks, before finding their rhythm and eventually running out comfortable victors. They join Needham Market, Felixstowe & Walton and AFC Sudbury in the last four. The draw will take place on Friday.
Ben Fowkes (35 mins), who is helping himself to plenty of goals so far in the Premier Cup this season, gave Leiston the lead, before a former Ipswich Town man Albie Armin (41) doubled the lead before the break.
Kyran Clements (70), George Quantrell (72) and a stunning free-kick from Ismael Fatadjo (79) saw a hat-trick of goals within 10 minutes seal the deal for the home side, in front of a crowd of 116.
"I felt we deserved it to be honest," the scorer of the fifth goal, Fatadjo , said after the game.
"We've been working hard after two losses back to back which we didn't really deserve and today we showed what we are all about.
"The first half we were playing against the wind, which was a bit tough, but second half, with the wind, we took control of the game. We scored some good goals, we didn't hesitate and put them in the back of the net."
And as regards his 30-yard stunning free-kick, Fatadjo said: "I've been practising before games, so it is about time one went in!"
A young Ipswich team started brightly, Darragh McCann hitting the bar in the fifth minute and Oliver Davis got in behind the Leiston defence but shot just wide of Ellis Craven's post.
Both teams traded shots, but none were on target, before Fowkes netted past Ipswich 'keeper Alan Fleischer on 35 minutes to give Leiston the lead, after a through ball from another former Ipswich man, Fraser Alexander.
It was two six minutes later, Armin netting after good work from Fowkes as the teams reached the break. Davis had three early second-half efforts for Ipswich, before Clements headed just wide of Fleischer's post. Leiston were starting to control the game, Ollie Saunders and Alexander both having shots just wide. But the crucial third goal was just around the corner.
It was Fowkes again who showed good work, and his cross was diverted home by Clements with 20 minutes left.
That goal opened the floodgates and Quantrell brilliantly chipped Fleischer two minutes later, after good work by Albin, before Fatadjo scored his stunner from 30 yards, with 11 minutes to go, as Leiston eased home.
