LEISTON welcome Brentwood Town to Suffolk for an FA Cup second qualifying round replay on Tuesday night. The sides met on Saturday at the Brentwood Arena where the sides played out a 2-2 draw.

The winners of the tie will be at home to National South Hornchurch in the next round of the FA Cup.

Toby Stevenson (OG) and Jamar Loza were the scorers for the Blues on Saturday while Stevenson levelled up first for Brentwood before Lee Noble’s 89th-minute goal helped secure a replay.

Blues manager Chris Wigger said ahead of the tie: “It was a bit of a bitter pill to swallow at Brentwood with such a late equaliser.

“But to have a home tie on Tuesday, rather than the reverse, bringing Brentwood over to us, I see that very much as a positive. And we’re looking to finish the job. We know the task in hand, and we know how close we came on Saturday. The boys will be looking to get the job done.”

Leiston have had two FA Cup replays in the Second Round Qualifying before in their history.

In 2010, the Blues had drawn 1-1 at Step 3 side Folkestone Invicta in Kent, with Danny Smy on target for Leiston. Three days later in Suffolk, Gareth Heath’s double netted a 2-1 win. Leiston, playing at Step 5 that season, played seven games in the FA Cup that campaign and went on to beat North Greenford United (5-1,H) and then went out at Dartford 3-2 in a replay, after the sides drew 0-0.

In 2021, the Blues drew 1-1 in Hertfordshire against Kings Langley (Finlay Barnes on target) before Leiston won 3-1 the following Tuesday night in the replay. Jamie Eaton-Collins, Joe Marsden and Barnes again were on the scoresheet that night but Leiston went out at the Third Round Qualifying stage to Tamworth.

If Tuesday night's game ends in a draw after 90 minutes then extra time will be played. If there is no winner after extra time, then the tie will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
