The Blues couldn't could they? ...Or could they?

The Blues couldn't could they? ...Or could they?

Dunne's Pit14 Mar - 17:56

The talk on the terraces this week has been all about Leiston's exciting end of the season... who knows what might happen!

IT'S that time of the campaign for nervousness, as the business end of the season has arrived.

Promotion, relegation, play-offs, it’s an exciting time for a lot of clubs and, if you are like me, of a nervous disposition, it's time to enjoy a swift half more than once in a while to calm those old nerves down.

Leiston have nine games left to get into the play-offs, or could they go for the title? They couldn’t could they?

Well, folks, 27 points on offer, eight points behind the leaders, two of the top four to play at home, we’ve seen crazier sporting things happen. Just ask Trevor Immelman... Who? I hear some cry.. exactly! Ranked 1,673 in the golfing world at the time, he won the 2008 Masters!

Anyhow, back to football, and add to that a Suffolk Premier Cup final to look forward to for the Blues and it could be a magical double in little ol Leiston. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but could you imagine the scenes? A victory bus top tour, maybe. Well, mini-bus probably, as the High Street isn't very wide.

Then again, not everyone is so excited.

Indeed, typically Tik Tok's glass is half empty ('six is my lucky number... we'll finish sixth'). He's a misery. So, we’ve had a little wager of a season ticket for next season, as I fancy the Blues to get a play-off berth at worse. He won’t be a happy bunny in a few weeks time when he’s emptying his piggy bank after Easter!

Now, obviously the big old football subject this week has been matches in Europe.

Five English teams through to their relative quarter-finals, add Rangers, and its six British clubs. It’s like the early '80’s all over again when we used to browse through the excellent Rothmans yearly books looking at all the European matches.

If English sides keep on winning, the subject of a Super League may raise its head again. I don't know, just save time and call it the English Premier League.

And finally... it's Barwell FC at the Watson & Hillhouse this weekend, and afterwards I see there's a Horse Racing event. Should be fun.

Well, if Cheltenham is anything to go by this week, a little tip from me... don't bet on any favourites!
