BLUES new-boy Harley Curtis was delighted to get off the mark with a goal last weekend against Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup, and says he hopes it will be, ‘the first of many’ for the club.

Curtis, 21, made an instant impact in the clash with the Daggers, volleying home from eight yards with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute. It was a well-taken goal and, although in vain in the final reckonings of the match, it will have given the striker a big boost at his new club.

“Of course I was very pleased to get my first goal,” Curtis, who joined Leiston from Needham Market last month, said. “And hopefully the first of many.

“It’s been a good start for me, and everyone at Leiston has been very welcoming. I can’t wait to kick on now.”

IT’S LOZA TIME AT HITCHIN!

Curtis, and Leiston, are on a run of four consecutive away clashes right now. This weekend they head to Redditch, before travelling to Spalding three nights later, then Bury Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup the week after that. The Tuesday just gone the Blues picked up a point at Hitchin, Jamar Loza’s 96th-minute leveller grabbing a 1-1 draw for Chris Wigger’s side.

“The boys give 100% every game and will always did deep,” Curtis said about the Hitchin point. “It’s a great group and I’m sure we will continue to progress throughout the season together.

“Our matches coming up on the road are tough and they’re all big games and of course we want to pick up as many points as possible.”

Leiston currently sit in the bottom four of the Southern League Premier Central. But it’s a tight division with just eight points separating third from Leiston’s 19th place.

“It’s a long season, and for the team it’s about winning games and pushing up the league,” Curtis added.

“Individually I want to help the team with good performances and of course to score as many goals as I can.”
