Hopefully no Fawlty moments as the road miles tot up

Hopefully no Fawlty moments as the road miles tot up

Dunne's Pit21 Mar - 18:38

The talk on the terraces this week is the continued fight for a play-off spot for the Blues, as the games begin to run down

THE last thing Leiston needed was a winless week. Still, these things happen.

Two wins would have seen us going into this weekend level on points with fifth-placed Stamford but as it is, we sit eighth and five points plus a worse goal difference behind 'The Daniels' (a wonderful nickname by the way, and well worth a Google as to why).

We came out of the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller last Saturday and then midweek, a less than thrilling goalless outing at bottom club Biggleswade... boy was that a dreary trip home, thank goodness for the KFC on the A12 still being open. I thought Tik Tok was going to start eating the box of tissues he always keeps in his Fiat Panda.

Still, onwards and upwards and, despite the set back, we are still very much involved in the very close play-off race (better not say title race) with six games remaining.

But it's at a stage now where games are 'must win' (funny phrase that, you never hear 'must draw' or 'must lose')... especially games at home to Bedford Town and Halesowen Town. Can the Blues do it? Here’s hoping.

So, this weekend, myself and Tik Tok head off along the A14 towards the midlands for about the 435th time this season.

Isn’t it a shame you can’t get road miles like you can air miles? We would have so many points between us we'd be able to drive round Europe twice and still have some left over for a trip to Dunwich for fish and chips.

We had to spin a coin to see who would be driving on Saturday. Just my luck he called ‘heads’ when I tried to trick him with a double-headed coin!

So, I’ve filled the old Morris Minor up with the finest unleaded petrol from Shotters garage, checked the tyres, so we are good to go.

We will have to leave at some unearthly hour of course to make kick-off but I just hope we don’t have a Basil Fawlty moment en-route!

Twigs away!!
