Loza grabs injury-time equaliser as Blues leave Hitchin with a battling point

JAMAR Loza grabbed a 96th-minute equaliser and Billy Johnson saved a penalty, as the battling Blues grabbed a point at Hitchin on Tuesday night.

Loza was on hand to scramble the ball home from a Leiston corner in the final minute as the visitors from Suffolk heaped pressure on their hosts in the final knockings, striving for the goal that eventually came.

That equaliser cancelled out Corree Wilson's 76th-minute opener for the home side. Before that, Wilson had seen his 58th-minute penalty saved by Johnson.

There were early bookings for the returning Wyatt Hill and Johnson for Leiston with the home side starting strongly and Eddie Jackson clearing off the Blues line early on.

However, there were no goals at the break, with Hitchin on top. Johnson then saved Wilson's penalty at the start of the second period before the same Hitchin man then netted what looked likely to be the winner, all that before Loza struck late.

The point leaves the Blues 19th in the table.

Attendance: 378

Leiston are in action again on Saturday, when they make the trip to Redditch United in a Southern League Premier Division match.
