Leiston progressed to the quarter-finals of the Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup this evening as they beat an Ipswich Town XI.
The Blues rested Joe Marsden, George Quantrell, Adam Bailey-Dennis and Will Davies all to the bench as Wyatt Hill, Zach Dronfield, Adam Mills and Ryan Jarvis came in for their place.
Leiston had the better of the chances on the night, with both teams passing the ball well. Ipswich started well and tested Donkin early on before Ben Fowkes was denied twice and Ryan Jarvis.
Ashton Boswell put Ipswich ahead though on 61 minutes, after Leiston started the half well. Adam Mills levelled seven minutes later before the Blues missed some excellent chances. Will Davies limped off late afternoon the Blues has used all three subs so Leiston finished the night with ten men.
Finlay Barnes though, making his 100th appearance tonight, netted in the third minute of stoppage time to send Leiston through. The Blues last lost at this stage in the 2010/2011 season, when Lowestoft defeated the Blues 2-0 at Victory Road.
All the best to Ipswich for the remainder of the campaign, and also for tomorrow night when their U18’s host West Ham in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.
