Leiston fans, committee people, players as well as representatives of other clubs, attended an update on Saturday of Leiston's 3G Community Project

Representatives of other clubs were keen to know how much hiring the pitch would cost

LEISTON'S 3G Community Project was the subject of discussion at the LTAA Club after Saturday’s game with Bromsgrove Sporting.

A presentation of what was happening, how far the project had progressed and future plans, was told to a healthy audience that included many Leiston fans, players, committee members and representatives from other clubs in the area.

Leiston joint first-team boss Darren Eadie and director of football Dave Williams led the presentation, while chairman Andy Crisp also took to the floor.

Darren spoke of the club’s ambitions to push higher up the non-league pyramid and how a 3G FIFA Pro pitch would benefit, not just revenue-wise, but from a footballing perspective and the benefits playing on such a surface can bring to a ball-playing team.

Dave then brought the audience up to date with where the club are at raising finance for the project as well as how not just Leiston, but other clubs in the region, as well as a bigger push for women’s, girls and vets football, will all be on the agenda.

Phases two and three of the project will include new changing facilities and a look at the car parking situation.

Andy and Dave took questions from the floor, many from fans wanting to know more about 3G, as well as representatives of other clubs, who were keen to know how much hiring the pitch would cost – that figure is still being worked on.

The plan is to have the pitch laid in the summer, as soon as the season is finished.

Before the game on Saturday, a Vice Presidents Lunch was also held, with Darren Eadie and Chris Wigger, Leiston’s other joint first-team boss, talking to the VP’s about their hopes for the future.

The day ended with the first team gaining an exciting 3-2 win over Bromsgrove, while the reserves had a terrific result at Norwich CBS, winning 1-4.
