LEISTON have completed the signing of former Ipswich Town and Northern Ireland defender, Chris Casement.

The 35-year-old joins the Blues from Stowmarket Town, where he was player/manager for a short spell at the tail end of last season.

His vast experience and talent will be a huge asset to the Blues, with Chris, who won the FA Youth Cup with Ipswich Town in 2005, before going on to make 18 senior appearances for the Portman Road club, delighted at the move to Victory Road.

“I’m really excited and pleased to be joining Leiston,” he said.

“Having spoken to Darren (Eadie) and Chris (Wigger) at length, it really felt right that I wanted to come and play at Leiston. I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I wanted to solely concentrate on playing. I stepped in at Stowmarket for the last remaining months of the season and I enjoyed it. But it’s very difficult to both play and manage. Physically I feel good and feel I have a few seasons yet to offer playing.”

The Belfast-born player, who has one Northern Ireland international senior cap, won in a match against Italy, will be a big addition to the Blues squad, as joint first team boss Chris Wigger admits.

“From the first time I spoke to him, I knew he was a player for me,” Chris said.

“Chris is someone that Darren and I have admired for some time, and this is not the first attempt we have made at signing him.

“We are happy he has chosen to join us now. He will bring his experience and winning mentality to our squad, and we’re delighted to have him on board.”
