Quantrell continues to find the back of the net... but he pays tribute to his team-mates for their help

'I seem to be in the right place at the minute. Hopefully that keeps on going'
- George Quantrell

BLUES midfielder George Quantrell admits he’s enjoying finding the back of the net right now – but says it’s good team play that is helping him do so.

The 22-year-old has scored eight times so far this season, two more were added on Tuesday night in the FA Cup replay win over Brentwood. It’s a run of goalscoring form he’s enjoying, and he says it’s something he has been working on.

“I’ll be honest, I’m not used to scoring so many goals as I am right now,” he said.

“I think this is one of the best runs I’ve been on, but in fairness some of them have been put on a plate for me, it’s the team that’s working well, creating the chances and I seem to be in the right place at the minute. Hopefully that keeps on going.

“Scoring goals is something I’ve wanted to do more. Last season I came back to Leiston and didn’t really hit the ground running. I worked hard in pre-season, I wanted to get in the box more, shooting more, giving myself chances to score.”

That all seems to be working well for Quantrell and Leiston right now, as the team head to Barwell this weekend – the first of two quick-fire away days – they are at Bedford Town on Tuesday night.

BARWELL versus LEISTON… Match preview

Quantrell says the Blues will go into both games confident.

“The football we are playing at times is really good, we’re not conceding too many goals either,” he said. “It’s fun to play in, and nice to keep the ball on the ground, pulling teams about and creating chances.

“Yes, the two away games will be tough, but we are on a good run and will look forward to them.”

Something else Quantrell, his team-mates and Leiston fans are looking forward to, is next Saturday’s big FA Cup clash with Hornchurch at Victory Road. The Blues are edging ever closer to the First Round proper.

“It’s always good to get an FA Cup run going,” Quantrell said. “It’s big for the club and the fans and obviously we want to go as far as we can now. Hornchurch will be a big game for us. They’re a league above us of course, but the way we’re playing, we will approach it with confidence.”
