Well preseason is nearly over once again..... who would have thought we would be saying that after the last few months! Firstly, it’s been a while and myself and everyone on behalf of everyone at Leiston FC hope all supporters across the region are keeping as safe as possible in these testing times.
The Blues have played five matches already, and I’m sure most of you have been keeping up to date on Twitter and Facebook with the results from both the First team and Reserves matches so far. The Blues have beaten Norwich CBS (9-1), Woodbridge Town (5-2), Felixstowe & Walton United (4-1) and Kirkley & Pakefield (3-1) while last Tuesday they drew 0-0 at Hadleigh United. The Reserves have won all their home matches against Benhall St Mary (3-1), Ransomes Sports (2-0), Claydon (5-2) but have gone down at Halesworth Town (5-0) and Henley Athletic (4-0) respectively away from home.
The ‘A’ team have beaten Hawthorn United 7-0 and also defeated Aldeburgh Town 8-0 on Wednesday night in preseason action. They begin their League C campaign in the SIL on Saturday 12th September. The ‘A’ side will play their Suffolk Primary Cup semi-final match on Monday 14th September at Woodbridge Town (745pm kick off), with the winners playing either Melton or Ipswich Exiles in the final.
In terms of player recruitment, Marcus Wilkinson and Kyle Richardson have come in from Lowestoft Town while Finlay Barnes and Liam Jackson have joined from Norwich United. Matt Richardson is on a season long loan from Norwich City.
Charlie Beckwith, Rhys Henry, Jake Hutchings, Isaac Skubich, Byron Lawrence, Noel Aitkens and Rob Harvey have all left the club and we wish them all the best at their new clubs.
This weekend sees both sides finishing off preseason as Leiston host Brightlingsea Regent (3pm kick off) while the Reserves are away to Holland (230pm kick off).
Leiston begin their 2020/2021 campaign at home to Ilford or Halstead Town in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday 12th September, with the Southern League season starting on Saturday 19th September (Leiston begin at home to Rushall Olympic). There will be NO Replays in the competition this season. The Blues will also be involved in the FA Trophy and Suffolk Premier Cup but there will be NO Southern League Cup this season.
The Reserves meanwhile start at home in the league on Saturday 5th September as Diss Town visit while three days later Needham Market Reserves are in town.
The pitch is once again looking in superb condition (thanks to all the ground staff on the terrific job they do) and the Fairground End fence is nearly complete as the whole ground is now boxed in.
